Day 10….. made no progress :0(

Today was an awful day. We left Fallon Nevada around 10am where the weather was pretty mild, around mid 60’s, no rain, kind of nice!
All of that nice-ness only lasted about 40 miles, then it got nasty. Going through Nevada means constantly going up and down over mountains. Today it was pouring cold rain, around 40 degrees at the tops of the mountains (about 8000 feet) and about 50 degrees in the valleys. We had four layers of clothes on a piece (t shirt and shorts, liners, rain gear, and gear) plus gloves (two layers of those!). We were absolutely froze to death. Within four hours, all layers of our clothes were soaked and we were shivering cold. We decided we didn’t have any business being on the roads half frozen, so we got a hotel for the night in a town called Ely.
A little about the town..
We are about 110 miles from the Utah Border, about three and a half hours from Salt Lake City.
There is no wal-mart around here, it’s about three hours away.
Most everyone sounds Canadian “Ayyyyyyyyeeee”
After this town, there isn’t another town with amenities for over 100 miles!
We decided to alter the map a bit. We are not heading to Denver, instead we are heading straight to South Dakota through Wyoming, and instead of Fort Leavenworth we are heading to a friends house in Omaha.
Didn’t take any pictures today, so all you have is my commentary! LOL
Tomorrow we are going to try and get as near as we can to the Agate Fossil Beds, it’s about 780 miles away

Think you were right that you had no business on the road in those conditions. Glad you stopped and got warmed up. Hope rest of your trip is better from here on.

IT’S BEEN RAINING HERE FOR SEVERAL DAYS NOW, HOPE YOU GUYS FIND A GAP IN IT SOMEWHERE.

We are so interested in your trip, you could have posted pics of your wet clothes or the hotel room and we would’ve been happy LOL.
To Daddy Nodirt…. That was me blowing the horn around 8:00 last night on my way back from feeding the cats.
To everybody else….Where is all the comments? Has everyone just gave up on my girl? Y’all know we got a Nodirt fan club and all are welcome to join! LOL
I’m pretty funny huh? lol
Oh well, Hopefully the weather will get better for you guys…I’ve got my fingers crossed!

All hail the Sarah Nodirt fan club! So glad you got a room and dried off! I hope your room has a TV with the Weather Channel station so you can tune in to know what to expect along the way. Be careful Hon! Love to you both, Mom

This message is again sent in the early morning of 12Jun. You two are using your reasoning powers well. I hadn’t thought of the cold in the mountains, but I should have. You needed winter riding gear and special underwear that stay warm when wet for sure, & maybe electric gloves. I would have cut the day short, too. Riding at 40-degrees when dry can be fairly comfortable, but riding in the rain at any temperature was never fun for me. You might be able to adjust your planned trail to riding out of the weather fronts. I don’t know ’cause I’m only commenting from long distance, and late at that. Does Ricks phone have a web browser? http://www.noaa.gov has good radar images fro storm tracking.
